While many of us leave simple toys behind in our childhood years, designers Neil Felipp San Pedro and Kelvin Morales are using it to create nostalgia-inducing wearable art. Inspired by one of everyone’s favorite games, the “Jackstone” collaboration features the combined talent of both designers that puts the toys front and center.

Consisting of 10 pieces, the upcoming collaboration uses literal jackstones handcrafted from metal which are carefully bound in gold and silver. The jackstones are then transformed into earrings, chokers, cufflinks, and even accent handles for minaudierès.

Design duties for the collection were shared by San Pedro and Morales, who both possess a whimsical creative spirit. Both designers’ strengths are proudly showcased in each piece, with San Pedro being known for his intricate and elegant metalwork, while Morales has been celebrated for his avant-garde and contemporary approach to design.

“For me, the collection was a great way for us to revisit our childhood, as we remember the simple things that gave us joy. One of them was jackstones. Its simple design and myriad of colors immediately attracted me as a child. Though, it was also used to tease me as a LGBTQIA+ member,” says San Pedro.

“But we do hope through this collection, that even as we grow up, we would like for our audience and clients to remember their inner child. The inner child who reminds us of the simple joys in life and to see the world with wonder,” he adds.

“The Jackstone Collection [was inspired by] a simple toy that evokes childhood nostalgia and brings back memories of innocence and wonder. Working with Neil, we both collaborated on ideas, and we share a deep understanding of craftsmanship and artistry,” says Morales.

The collection will be available exclusively at the soon-to-open Neil Felipp boutique at The Peninsula Manila and online at neilfelipp.com on Aug. 19.
