MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday issued a heavy rainfall warning in some areas of Luzon and Visayas due to Tropical Storm Nika (international name: Toraji).

According to its 11 a.m. update, moderate to heavy rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters (mm) is expected in parts of Aurora, Quezon, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Northern Samar from Sunday until Monday noon.

Pagasa has warned that localized flooding may occur, especially in urbanized, low-lying and river-adjacent areas.

“Landslide is possible in highly susceptible areas,” the state weather bureau added.

Heavy to intense rainfall is likely to cause numerous flooding incidents, particularly in urbanized, low-lying or river-adjacent areas, according to Pagasa.

While widespread severe flooding and landslides may occur in regions experiencing intense to torrential rainfall, it added.

Tropical Storm Nika was last located some 500 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon moving westward at 30 kilometers per hour (kph).

It carries maximum sustained winds of 100 kph and gusts reaching up to 125 kph.
